Do what you want and be friendly

Cafe 1001 is a favourite location amongst locals in East London.

One of the most motivating parts of working for an entertainment venue was the amount of creative freedom given to be inventive in my role. I was supporting a venue by giving it a public voice and persona through social media, flyers and indoor advertising.

Brick Lane is a lively pedestrian street bubbling over the rim with creative businesses. Door by door there are tiny boutiques, restaurants, art galleries, bars and endless curry shops. Culture clashes in Brick Lane, with a Middle East Asian presence living side by side with everyone else in the world it seems. Young and old, tourist and resident, punk and hipster. Cafe 1001 has a very a simple, bohemian ethos: “Do what you want and be friendly.”

Cafe 1001 was basically my home. Some of my friends are DJs. I sometimes mix records. I wanted the venue posters to look like LPs. I’ve made careful decisions to make visual media for the venue appeal widely and stay true to it’s values.
